There’s a new product that’s reportedly catching the attention of bereaved individuals all around the world. Apparently, there’s a new way for people to hold on to their loved ones after death. Surprisingly, the new product also promotes intimacy between those grieving and their lost loved one. Bizarre enough? Well, it actually there’s more.
According to Metro, the bizarre invention is a memorial box called “21 Grams,” which is the average “weight of a human soul” – a person’s ashes to be more specific. The inventor Mark Sturkenboom states that the box includes a necklace, a scent diffuser and a speaker that that plays music in remembrance of the lost loved one. But, there’s just one more eye-catching component included in the box – a gold-plated sex toy.
However, this sex toy isn’t like any other because the lost loved one’s ashes can be put into the toy. So, basically the toy would take the place of an urn. The box also includes a lock and key, because most owners probably would not want anyone touching their symbolic belongings.
Here’s the product description via Mark Sturkenboom’s website:
“21 Grams is a memory-box that allows a widow to go back to the intimate memories of a lost beloved one. After a passing, the missing of intimacy with that person is only one aspect of the pain and grieve.
“This forms the base for 21 Grams. The urn offers the possibility to conserve 21 grams of ashes of the diseased and displays an immortal desire. By bringing different nostalgic moments together like the scent of his perfume, ‘their’ music and reviving the moment he gave her her first ring, it opens a window to go back to moments of love and intimacy.
“She is able to have an intimate night with her sweetheart again. The cabinet functions also as an acoustic amplifier. In the back of the cabinet there is room for an iPhone, the music plays their music through the ‘forget me not’ flowers on the inside of the cabinet. The key to this cabinet is also a golden collier.
“So that she is the only one who can access the cabinet. 21 Grams is not only a way to tempt a person to revive an intimate night with her love again but also displays an accusation against the unavoidable passing of life.”
During a recent interview, Sturkenboom explained why he chose to create the bizarre product.
“After a passing, the missing of intimacy with that person is only one aspect of the pain and grief. This forms the base for 21 Grams. The urn offers the possibility to conserve 21 grams of ashes of the deceased and displays an immortal desire. I sometimes help an elderly lady with her groceries and she has an urn standing near the window with the remains of her husband. She always speaks with so much love about him but the jar he was in didn’t reflect that at all. In that same period I read an article about widows, taboos and sex and intimacy and then I thought to myself, ‘can I combine these themes and make an object that is about love and missing and intimacy?”‘
