‘The Age of Adaline’ Landed In Third Place At The Box Office

Box Office Mojo reported that The Age of Adaline was slightly ahead of Furious 7 on its first day of release, but the new romantic fantasy did not hold the top spot for the entire weekend. The Age of Adeline ended up in third place at the box office.

The Age of Adaline earned nearly $5 million from 2,991 theaters on Friday night, and Furious 7 earned $4.9 million. By the end of the weekend, The Age of Adaline had earned $13.2 million, and Furious 7 kept its top position for the fourth consecutive week with $18.3 million. Furious 7 has a domestic total of a whopping $320.5 million.

The Age of Adaline, directed by Lee Toland Krieger and written by J. Mills Goodloe and Salvador Paskowitz, was released in theaters on April 24. The movie has some famous actors, including Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman, Kathy Baker, Amanda Crew, Harrison Ford, and Ellen Burstyn.

Adaline Bowman, played by Blake Lively, doesn’t age. She has been a 29-year-old beautiful woman for nearly nine decades. She can’t allow herself to get close to anyone because they will grow old, and she will stay young. It is interesting that Adaline remains younger than her daughter, played by Ellen Burstyn. A chance encounter with a good looking philanthropist named Ellis Jones, played by Michiel Huisman, makes Adaline want the passion and romance she has missed. When her true age is about to be revealed, Adaline makes a life-changing decision.

Even though Blake Lively’s performance was praised, The Age of Adaline has received mixed reviews from critics. One critic says the first 20 minutes of the film seems like a news report because of the long narration. The same critic says what works in the book doesn’t work on the screen. There is so little chemistry between Lively and Huisman that no one knows why Adaline and Ellis are considered a match made in heaven.

The Los Angeles Times said that while Blake Lively gives a good performance, it is Harrison Ford who gives the movie the push it needs.

“Leave it to Harrison Ford to pull off a rescue that one of his signature heroes might envy. In a deftly crafted supporting role, Ford does as much as Lively herself to shape Adaline’s strange predicament into something genuinely resonant.”

Do you believe to remain young is a blessing or a curse? Do you intend to see The Age of Adaline while the movie is in theaters?
