Bruce Jenner’s highly-anticipated interview with Diane Sawyer aired tonight on ABC, and the rumors have finally been confirmed.
“Yes, and for all intents and purposes, I am a woman,” Jenner told Sawyer during the special edition episode of 20/20 titled, Bruce Jenner: The Interview.
“It’s going to be tough. I’ve been thinking about this day forever and what I should do with my life… how do I tell people what I’ve been through? Today is that day, and I get to choose,” Jenner said through tears.
The former Olympic gold medalist, and reality star on E!’s Keeping up with the Kardashians, has finally admitted that he is transgender.
“I’ve always been very confused with my gender identity,” Bruce said.
“My brain is much more female than it is male… it’s hard for people to understand that, but that’s what my soul is.”
According to the Washington Post, Bruce admits to being transgender, he maintains that he is not gay.
“You’re going back to the sex thing, it’s apples or oranges,” he explained. “Sexuality is who you’re attracted to, who turns you on — gender identity is who you are, what is in your soul.”
Speculation regarding Bruce Jenner’s sexuality has been going around for several months now after he was seen wearing long ponytails, painted fingernails, and most recently, a dress. But, even though fans suspected Bruce’s secret, they were in complete shock when he finally confirmed what everyone already knew.
So far, Jenner seems to be getting tons of love and support from his family and friends. Many fans and family members have already taken to social media to offer their support to the former patriarch of the Kardashian/Jenner clan.
“Bruce Jenner is a beautiful, brave human being,” Ellen DeGeneres tweeted. “Sending him lots of love. He’s saving lives and opening minds tonight.”
