Elizabeth Olsen Opens Up About Nude Scenes, Her Famous Sisters, And Taking On ‘The Avengers’

In an interview with Reuters, Elizabeth Olsen, who portrays Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, talked about playing alongside a star-studded cast which includes the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, and Chris Hemsworth.

“Besides the personalities being daunting because they’re all such amazing actors, it’s also daunting to step on and learn about how you’re going to portray these characters when it’s all second nature to them now,” Olsen explained.

Olsen went on to discuss how she approached her new role as the Scarlet Witch, a character with mind-altering mystical powers. “I started with just the comic book. You start small and that’s two dimensional and you have the script and afterwards you create their back story. You start to understand their relationships and sometimes it’s when you finish the movie, you’re like ‘Oh. Now I understand her.'”

Elizabeth Olsen, who also made an appearance in the latest Godzilla film, has been building a fairly impressive acting career. Who does she credit for her success in such a difficult field?

“My sisters are the most inspiring women to me because of the way they lead their lives,” Olsen stated in an interview with The Edit online magazine, referencing her sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. “They’re insanely diligent and they taught me that you can do whatever you want if it’s your passion and you work hard at it,” she added.

Olsen went on to discuss how fellow actresses, such as Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett, have also influenced her to take on roles that include risks. “I remember watching Holy Smoke and thinking that it was so reassuring to see a young Kate doing something that was so bold in so many ways. I thought to myself, ‘O.K., so it doesn’t destroy your career if you appear nude or take risks.”

With that being said, while Olsen believes she is comfortable in taking on a nude role, she still feels like it is a choice. “[But] there are times when I like to do it. You want that voyeuristic quality, but I never feel I have to be nude – and you won’t ever see me in a beauty shot in a bikini on a beach. That’s a character I will never play.”

Elizabeth Olsen, who has had a number of successful parts in independent films, can be seen as she graces the big screens in The Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1.
