New York State Senator Tells Snooki To “Grow Up” [Video]

State Sen. Diane Savino (D-Staten Island) told the New York Daily News that Jersey Shore star Snooki should “Grow Up”. Senator Savino said that she believes the reality television star should focus on her unborn child and said that she should stop drinking (although there is no evidence that Snooki has continued to consume alcohol since learning of her pregnancy).

Senator Savino said,

“I just hope someone talks to her about fetal alcohol syndrome,”

Snooki revealed to Us weekly last week that she is indeed pregnant and engaged to boyfriend Jionni LaValle.

Senator Savino added,

“We don’t wish anything bad on her. I hope her baby is healthy. Here’s a chance for her to change her image and become a positive role model,”

Snooki told US Weekly that she was not going to live in the Jersey Shore house while she is pregnant saying,

“I don’t want to be one of those moms who’s pregnant in a club. It’s disgusting,”

Savino joins a whole list of politicians that has criticized Snooki. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) has publicly criticized the show, and one of Christie’s closest legislative allies, Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield) has sponsored two film contests to show the world that the real Jersey Shore is nothing like what appears in the MTV reality show.

In January, Hoboken, N.J. Mayor Dawn Zimmer (D) turned down the applications for MTV to film a Jersey Shore spinoff featuring Snooki and Jennifer “J-Woww” Farley as roommates. Zimmer’s neighboring mayor, Jersey City’s Jerry Healy (D), did allow the show to go forward in an apartment in his city’s waterfront.

Healy’s opponent in the upcoming election has actually made a campaign issue out of it accusing Healy of having no pride in the city.
