Sommer Nicole Odom: Louisiana Teacher Accused Of Sex Crimes With Student

A former Louisiana teacher has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. According to WAFB, Sommer Nicole Odom, who was previously employed at the Lake Charles Charter Academy in Lake Charles, Louisiana, was arrested on Tuesday, April 21. The 35-year-old teacher is reportedly facing multiple charges including four counts of indecent behavior with juveniles, three counts of oral sexual battery, and one count of sexual battery.

Deputy Chief Mark Kraus with the Lake Charles Police Department stated that the unnamed student’s mother contacted local authorities on Saturday, April 18. The concerned mother revealed that Odom had “inappropriate contact” with her son on several occasions.

After further investigation, it was reportedly confirmed that Odom did indeed have sexual relations with the student. According to KATC, authorities searched Odom’s home, which ultimately led to the arrest. He also stated that there is a possibility more charges could be added.

“We have searched the suspect’s residence and did some work at the school itself interviewing people to support the allegation.”

Following Odom’s arrest, the Lake Charles Charter Academy Foundation released an official statement in regards to the allegations. The foundation made it clear that Odom’s disturbing acts are highly unacceptable. An internal investigation is also taking place, and the foundation plans to cooperate with authorities.

“The Board of Trustees condemns the conduct associated with these disturbing allegations. If proven true, it represents a gross and inexplicable departure from the conduct expected of the instructional staff. This tragic incident does not reflect the moral identity upon which our school was founded.

We are taking steps to provide appropriate counseling to the affected students and to the immediate family members of the former teacher, who ar victims as well.

We are conducting our own internal investigation and are fully cooperating with law enforcement to protect the rights of all parties. We deeply regret any harm that may have been done to the students and staff, and we solemnly promise to seek the truth so that all appropriate actions may be taken.

We are steadfastly committed to the physical, emotional and educational well-being of our students. A safe learning environment has been, and will always be, our paramount responsibility.”

Odom’s bond was set at $120,000. However, it has been reported that she has bonded out.
