‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Shocker: Fans Outraged With Shonda Rhimes After Character’s Shocking Death [Spoilers]

Grey’s Anatomy just had one of its most shocking episodes ever, killing off Patrick Dempsey’s character, Dr. Derek Shepherd, in a twist that left fans in tears and angry at showrunner Shonda Rhimes for his dramatic exit.
In Thursday’s episode, Shepherd helped the victims of a car crash, but then got into a wreck himself. He was rushed to a hospital, but died when doctors didn’t follow the correct protocol to save him.
Though there had been growing rumors that Dempsey was leaving the show, Thursday’s episode came as a huge shock to fans, many of whom took to social media to mourn the character who has been at the center of the show since its debut in 2005.

Many reports said that Patrick Dempsey was clashing with Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Shonda Rhimes, who has been known to show little patience for stars acting out.
This new Page Six report shares comments from an on-set source.
“Patrick has been acting like a diva and has clashed with Shonda. She suspended him for a while, and the word on set is that he isn’t coming back full time. Given all the past problems with Katherine Heigl and Isaiah Washington, there is little tolerance on the show for troublesome talent.”
Many fans turned their attention to Rhimes, blaming her for the shocking Grey’s Anatomy death.

While many Grey’s Anatomy fans were angry at Shonda Rhimes for killing off Patrick Dempsey’s character, the showrunner spoke highly of his time with the show. In a statement after the episode, Rhimes said, “Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character – for Meredith, for me and for the fans. I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our ‘McDreamy.’ ”
