Harry Styles planned to leave One Direction before Zayn Malik left the group unexpectedly, says Lance Bass, former member of popular boy band Nsync.
"Harry Styles has been ready to go solo for many months. In fact, he's been recording solo and was about to leave," claims Bass in his interview on the Meredith Viera show on Thursday.
According to Lance, Harry was as shocked by Zayn's departure as everyone else was.
"The Zayn thing was just spur of the moment but I think the best move he could have ever done because everyone knows Harry," he said.
"Harry Styles was a household name, my grandmother knows Harry Styles. Zayn Malik, didn't really know the name until he was the first to leave the group. Kudos to him to being smart to leave."
Bass isn't the only industry insider who has speculated that Harry Styles' future in One Direction is less than certain. Morgan Spurlock, the director behind their concert film This Is Us, recently told TMZ that he thinks the days of One Direction are numbered.
"I think they will stay together for a little bit longer and then I think at some point Harry will probably leave. He'll probably be next," Spurlock said.
Fans of One Direction are still reeling from the loss of Zayn Malik who left the band in March to pursue a solo career. The news prompted a very dangerous trend called "Cutting for Zayn" where teenage girls cut themselves to express their anguish over his departure from the group. There's no telling what they'd do if Harry, arguably the group's breakout star, decides to leave.
why should i be alive? #CuttingForZayn"I think all those guys together are fantastic" Spurlock continued. "They had something really special together. But you can't fault Zayn for wanting to leave. People have to make their own decisions in life."

His grim assessment of Harry Styles' future in One Direction wasn't the only controversial opinion Spurlock had to share. He went on to say that he thinks that Zayn is more talented than Harry and that he (Zayn) was the most talented member of the group.
"He's a talented singer" he said. "To make the decision to leave and go off on your own and chase a solo career in the midst of being as famous as you are, you can't fault somebody for that."
So, what does Spurlock think will happen to the other members of the group, Niall Liam and Louis?
"I think the three of those guys will become the new Bell Biv Bevoe?" he said.
For those of you who were born after the year 1990, Bell Biv Bevoe was a spinoff group formed after the breakup of New Edition, a popular boyband from the 1980s. The group had one memorable hit single called "Poison" which reached No. 3 on the Billboard charts.
Gossip Cop reports that the One Direction management camp has so far denied all claims that they'll be losing another member soon and that any of the guys have been recording solo work.
Harry Styles has so far declined to publicly comment on his future with One Direction.
