Amy Schumer doesn’t shrink from the spotlight. In fact, sometimes she runs right for it, falls down on the floor and makes a great, big scene. That’s exactly what the controversial comedienne did Tuesday night at the 2015 Time 100 Gala in New York. According to CNN, Schumer crashed the red carpet entrances of fellow guests of honor Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, “pranking” the power couple by hijacking their big moment in front of the assembled ranks of the paparazzi. As stills of the incident made their rounds on news outlets and social media, Schumer posted a scene from the spectacle via her own Instagram account.

By and large, Schumer’s tumble earned many a chuckle from folks in the general vicinity but TMZ‘s analysis suggested that Kim and Kanye weren’t the least bit appreciative of Amy’s spontaneous silliness. In an article entitled “Not Funny, Amy Schumer…Get Off Our Red Carpet,” the Internet’s pantheon of gossip sites described the expressions on Kimye’s faces as “100% pure unimpressed shade.”
It was Schumer herself who got the biggest kick out of her own antics and she discussed the shtick with Time later the same evening.
“I saw them and said to my publicist, ‘Can I pretend to fall?’ and she said, ‘I can’t stop you,” Schumer explained.
With her star clearly on the rise over the fabled landscape of popular culture, Amy Schumer appears to enjoy pushing the proverbial envelope. As reported by Inquisitr, Schumer is raising eyebrows with some controversial content for the new season of her TV show Inside Amy Schumer. One such sketch, which loosely parodies the hit show Friday Night Lights, offers Schumer’s silly (yet nonetheless cringeworthy) critique of rape culture in America. Although it’s always a gamble to mix controversy with comedy, Schumer is quickly becoming an important source of social commentary, and respected institutions such as Time have taken note of her appeal and relevance.
Make no mistake about it, though, Amy Schumer will go for the gusto at each and every opportunity. During a recent appearance on Late Night With David Letterman, Schumer brought the house down after making a joke about her lady parts. Truth be told, she could easily blame it on Dave, as he was the one who egged her on by saying “Do something you’ll regret.” A clip from the show entitled “Amy Schumer Shows David Letterman Her Vagina” went viral on the internet shortly thereafter.
With a spot-on wit and a knack for spontaneity, there’s no telling how or when Amy Schumer will strike next, but if her recent spate of high-profile hijinks are any indication of the future, the laughs will follow wherever she goes. For their part, Kim and Kanye know star power when they see it and although they may try to avert their eyes, Amy Schumer is a “can’t miss” celebrity who has officially made the scene. Thank goodness there’s room enough on the red carpet for everyone.
