“Kim’s teamed up with Dr. Drew Pinsky for a documentary called ‘#RedFlag,’ which highlights the correlation between depression and social media today — a topic that’s become all of a sudden relevant in Kim’s life, since her brother allegedly suffers from depression and has posted some rather questionable things on his own social media platforms as of late.”
Fish Wrapper quotes Kim Kardashian talking about the show.
“I am blessed to be surrounded by family and friends that are loving and nurturing, but not everyone has that kind of support. Twenty-five percent of adults in America will suffer from a mental illness in their lifetime, and many of them turn to social media to vent their depression, loneliness and isolation.”
Let’s hope Kim Kardshian is truly doing this to help. Another major star, Lady Gaga, developed the Born This Way Foundation in order to help young adults with mental illness. However, the organization was eventually accused of tax fraud. The Daily Mail reported on the scandal last year.
“Lady Gaga’s charity took in more than $2.5 million in 2012 – but paid out just a single $5,000 grant, tax records have revealed. The pop superstar’s Born This Way Foundation spent millions on consultants, lawyers and publicity experts, plus more than $500,000 on its 23-event Born To Be Brave bus tour, which visited US cities ‘inspiring’ disillusioned youths. However, documents show there was just one recipient of a $5,000 grant.”
Lady Gaga’s mother, Cynthia, used several outlets to defend the organization to claim that the organization was not about giving grants, but more about spreading information. She could have a good point. Lady Gaga herself has claimed to have suffered from depression and other types of mental illness.
Kim Kardashian, who is far more popular than Lady Gaga is right now, could finally be doing something to counter the belief that she is all about fame and nothing else. A lot of people listen to her, whether they admit it or not. Kim Kardashian is still popular and made Variety‘s “Power of Women” issue that came out Monday. The magazine notes the work that Kardashian has done with the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She not only visits patients, but donates a lot of money to their cause, as well. How can anybody dislike Kim Kardashian after reading about her charity work?
