Rockets Slam Into Israel, Schoolyard Takes Direct Hit [Video]

More than 130 rockets have slammed into southern Israel from the Gaza Strip over the last three days. Today a rocket scored a direct hit on a schoolyard in the major city of Beersheba in southern Israel, destroying the school. Luckily, due to the Rocket attacks school had been been canceled and the building was empty at the time.

Israel has stated that they hold the terrorist group Hamas, who has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007, responsible for all rockets fired from their territory. The world is waiting to see how Israel plans on responding to the missile barrages.

Since the beginning of the escalation, today makes the first time a residential neighborhood has been hit by Palestinian fire. Medics were on the scene treating people for shock and trauma. As a result of a hit on a farm yesterday in the Israeli south, one man clung to life after taking shrapnel in the stomach and two others were moderately wounded.

Israel is crediting the Iron Dome missile defense shield with stopping more than 39 rockets from hitting population centers. The shield is performing at a 90% capacity taking down 9 out of ten missiles fired. Israel says it plans on deploying more Iron Dome batteries to protect the south in coming weeks.

The latest missile barrage came after Israel foiled a major terror attack along the Egyptian border, killing the Secretary General of the Popular Resistance Committee, a major Palestinian terror group. Israel said the terrorists were in the final stages of carrying out a major terror attack from Egypt against Israeli civilians.
