Lego Batman Movie, ‘Lego Movie Sequel’ Get Release Dates

Warners Bros. have announced the release dates of the next three Lego movies, two of which are the as yet untitled Lego Batman movie, and The Lego Movie Sequel. According to reports, the Lego Batman movie will be released on February 10, 2017, with The Lego Movie Sequel following that up more than a year later on May 18, 2018. The third film that will be released is the spinoff Ninjago, which has moved from an original fall 2016 release date to September 22, 2017.

Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution at Warner Bros. said during the announcement that these movies are just at the beginning of a diverse animation slate that will continue for a number of years.

“We are very excited about dating our upcoming Lego animated features, which already have a worldwide fan following, built on the foundation of the first film. These three films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come.”

As The Inquisitr has previously mentioned, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who wrote and directed The Lego Movie, are writing The Lego Movie Sequel based on a story by Lord, Miller, Jared Stern, and Michelle Morgan, and the film is set to be directed by Rob Schrab. Both Lord and Miller, speaking in a joint statement, have said that they are both excited to be working with Schrab, saying that they have been fans of his television work.

“We are so excited to collaborate with Rob. He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years. No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project. People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, ‘Of course!'”

Greg Silverman, President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Warner Bros. Pictures, who also said that he was looking forward to what would become of The Lego Movie Sequel, as well as the untitled Lego Batman movie.

The Lego Movie captivated critics and audiences on a global scale with its irresistible blend of humor, imagination and fun. Warner Bros. is excited to build our relationship with The LEGO Group with this new adventure, and we join them in welcoming the multi-talented Rob Schrab to the LEGO family as he takes the helm of The Lego Movie Sequel.”

The news comes not long after a Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice parody Lego trailer was released. You can watch that below.
