Powerball Winning Numbers April 18: Winning Ticket Sold In Puerto Rico, Jackpot Now $40 Million
One winning Powerball ticket matched all six numbers on April 18, making one lucky ticket holder in Puerto Rico $50 million richer. The jackpot now returns to $40 million for the next drawing on April 22.
According to the Multi-State Lottery Association, the winning Powerball numbers drawn on April 18 were: 13, 22, 23,29, 31 and PB 17. In addition to the $50 jackpot prize, two tickets were sold in California and Michigan that match five numbers (no Powerball), and are worth a cool $1 million each.
The jackpot winner has yet to come forward, but this makes the second time a jackpot has been one in Puerto Rico in the past few months. Back in February, three people split a massive $564.1 million Powerball jackpot, and one of the winners was from Puerto Rico. According to Fox News Latino, the popular lottery game has only been offered in the island nation since October, 2014.
How much will the lucky Powerball winner receive when they come forward with to cash in their winning ticket? USA Mega reports that it depends on how the winner wants to receive their prize — in a lump sum or by annuity.
Normally, winners would get approximately $1.25 million per year for 30 years if they choose the annuity, or $33.4 million in a one-time lump sum payment. However, that figure is based on taking 25 percent out in federal taxes. Forbes reports that there has been some controversy over whether or not people in Puerto Rico pay federal taxes on their lottery winnings.
“Any lottery winnings in Puerto Rico are still subject to the mandatory 20 percent state tax. Section 933 of the U.S. tax code provides an exemption for Puerto Rico residents from paying federal income tax on Puerto Rico-sourced income.”
Even if you didn’t win the jackpot, it’s always a good idea to check your ticket in case you won a non-jackpot prize, worth between $4 and $1 million. Here are the results of the last nine Powerball drawings.
