Battlefield 3 Getting Three More Expansions This Year

EA and DICE have kept quiet on further Battlefield 3 expansions since the release of ‘Back to Karkand‘, but now the developer is pulling back the curtains on the future of Battlefield 3 content.

At a GDC event last night, DICE announced that Battlefield 3 will be getting a new map pack this June, dubbed ‘Close Quarters’. As per EA’s timed exclusivity agreement with Sony, PlayStation 3 owners will be able to get their hands on it a week earlier than everyone else.

As the map pack’s name may suggest, the upcoming map pack will be focused on close-quarters infantry combat on smaller maps. In addition to bringing in an unknown number of new maps, the DLC will also introduce 10 new weapons to Battlefield 3.

The Battlefield 3 DLC won’t stop there, however. DICE said that the third expansion, ‘Armored Kill’, will see a release on all three platforms this fall. Armored Kill will essentially be the exact opposite of Close Quarters, with a focus on vehicle combat on some of the largest open maps DICE has ever constructed.

A fourth Battlefield 3 expansion, ‘End Game’, is also set to release this winter, but not much is known about that one at this point, nor is it known just how much any of these expansions are going to cost.

“Instead of delivering piecemeal map packs, we’re giving players a completely new experience with every themed expansion pack to keep the action fresh,” said Patrick Bach, Executive Producer on Battlefield 3. “Our expansions are designed to excite our large and active fan base while attracting new recruits with gameplay that is dynamic and unpredictable every time.”
