Two Women In Their 50s Go Missing During A Trip To Michigan’s Upper Peninsula

Michigan State Police are still trying to find answers as to what happened to two sisters from Nebraska and Oklahoma, who were reported missing while visiting family, during a trip they were supposed to be taking to Michigan.

Leslie Roy, 52, and Lee Wright, 56, were traveling together in the Ishpeming, Michigan, area when they all but vanished. It has now been a week since family members have heard from either woman regarding their whereabouts.

Canada Journal reports that the last communication from the two women was sent to family members on April 10, 2015, via text message. The message was sent from their hotel, according to the women’s other sister, Sharri Missman. Earlier that evening the women had visited their nieces family, and stayed for dinner before leaving to head back to the hotel.

The hotel in Ishpeming that the women were staying says that they checked out the next morning, and according to credit card statements, they had visited a near-by convenience store, but then there is no record of anything. No charges, debits, phone calls, or sightings. Family became very concerned when the women did not let anyone know that had arrived at the Mackinaw City motel where they were scheduled to stay the following day.

Family members told police that the women talked about doing some sightseeing while they were in Michigan as well, and were reportedly scheduled to travel to Kalamazoo, in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, but they never made it. Family and police are growing increasingly concerned over what could have possibly happened to these two women, and are asking for the public’s help in locating them.

State Trooper Ryan Giroux, tells CBS Detroit, that the family said the two women never specified their exact route, or all their stopping points along their trip.

“There was some rumor, speculation by family that they might have stopped at a casino or to see some waterfalls,” said Giroux. “We’ve been checking into that as well, but that’s not 100 percent confirmed.”

The women are said to be traveling in a white Ford Explorer, with a Nebraska license plate of either “TVC 973? or “TTM 081.”

“They do have cellphones but as far as we can tell, they are not currently working right now,” said Giroux. “There’s no evidence of foul play involved so right now, we’re just treating this as a missing persons [case].”

If anyone has seen these women, or their vehicle, they are asked to call the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post at 906-475-9922.
