Anchor Sue Simmons Loses Job at WNBC After 32 Years

Anchor Sue Simmons has worked at WNBC/Channel 4 for more than three decades but this June the longtime TV personality will say goodbye to her anchor chair as WNBC has decided not to renew her contract.

The Associated Press reports that Simmons has won four Emmy Awards since she started working at Channel 4 in 1980. She is currently the top-paid anchorwoman in the country at a local station. WNBC said that it is “engaged in ongoing conversations with Sue about her transition from WNBC” and it plans to “celebrate her many contributions to WNBC and the New York market.”

According to the NY Post, Simmons and Chuck Scarborough are the longest-running anchor team in New York television history. Both Simmons and Scarborough are 68 and both had their contracts set to expire this year. NBC has decided to renew Scarborough’s contract for another three years.

The Post reports that Simmons has known about this for at least a year. In January, the anchor was bounced from the 6 o’clock news to the 11 o’clock news. And today NBC announced that they would not renew Simmons contract.
