Harvard Heads to NCAA Tournament For First Time in 66 Years

Harvard will be playing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 66 years. Harvard was handed their ticket to March Madness last night after Princeton beat Penn 65-52 in the final Ivy League game of the year.

After news broke that they were heading to the NCAA tournament, Harvard Crimson players expressed their excitement on Twitter.

Brandyn Curry wrote: Let Me Get My Dancing Shoes On!!!!!

Kyle Casey wrote: Love this team love this journey… Tonight we dance!

Oliver McNally wrote: 64 or 65 years don’t really know but god damn. Legit my motivation for coming here. I’m a CBB nerd, making NCAAs was primary goal.

Harvard coach Tommy Amaker released a more official statement:

“We are thrilled and honored to have an opportunity to compete in the 2012 NCAA tournament. This is a tremendous moment for Harvard University, our basketball program and our community. Go Crimson!”

Last year, Harvard was one game away from advancing to the NCAA Tournament but they lost to Princeton on a last-second shot. This year, it was Princeton who helped Harvard win the Ivy League. Princeton’s Patrick Saunders told ESPN:

“It was an interesting game coming in. We don’t have much love for either team. It was nice to get a win, but it was kind of tough to swallow knowing our win put Harvard in the tournament.”

Are you a Crimson fan? Do you think Harvard will make it past the first round?
