Archaeologists got a little more than they bargained for when excavating an 18th century toilet at an old school of swordsmanship in Gdansk, Poland. Made of leather and 8-inches in length, the 300-year-old sex toy was in the form of an ancient dildo with a wooden head and apparently filled with bristles.
It seems that the modern kind of sex toy, while varying in design, is really nothing new. According to one of the archaeologists, “It was probably dropped by someone.”

The archaeologists were no doubt surprised by their unusual find. A spokesman for the Regional Office for the Protection of Monuments in Gdansk told the media that it was found in the 18th-century latrine and that the sex toy probably dates back to the second half of the 18th century.
“It is quite thick and rather large, made of leather and filled with bristles, and has a wooden tip that has preserved in excellent condition. It was probably dropped by someone in the toilet. Whether that was by accident or on purpose is anyone’s guess though.”
According to Pictorial, Marcin Tymiński told Radio Gdańsk it was “certainly expensive.”
“Cleaning revealed it was made of high quality leather. This is an extraordinary find for people researching the history of erotica.”
The archaeologists were led to excavate the site further after finding old swords, which seemed to show that the site was previously a school of swordsmanship. However, their latest find, while still long and relatively pointy, was something quite different indeed.
Experts have now taken the sex toy for further investigations and preservation work.
According to the Mirror, many sex toys have been found throughout history in one shape or form. Even Upper Palaeolithic artifacts are thought to have been sex toys used for erotic pleasure.

They also mentioned that an Austrian museum has the world’s oldest condom on display, reportedly alongside the fragments of four other condoms dating from approximately 1650. These were apparently also discovered in a toilet, but this time in Dudley Castle in the West Midlands.
Speaking of sex toys, these days some really weird stories end up in the news, including that reported on the Inquisitr of a man who died while having sex with a scarecrow he had dressed up as a woman.
