Woman Arrested Says ‘S**t Happens’ In Response To Her Car Crash Killing A 5-Year-Old Girl

A woman arrested by Glendale police responded by saying “s**t happens” after finding out a 5-year-old child died in a car crash she is held responsible for.

Glendale police placed 24-year-old Aaronessa Rebecca Keaton behind bars, charging the Arizona mother with five counts of endangerment, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and manslaughter.

Aaronessa Keaton is charged with causing a three-vehicle collision on Feb. 28, 2014, which resulted in six people sustaining injuries and the death of a 5-year-old girl. According to police, Keaton was driving her Ford Explorer southbound when she sideswiped a Chevrolet Malibu going north. No one in the Malibu received injuries after spinning out of control and eventually coming to a complete stop.

However, Keaton continued driving down the northbound lanes until she and the driver of a 2007 Nissan Frontier crashed, nearly head-on.

According to a report by AZ Central, six people in the Nissan suffered serious injuries. Both of the children who were sitting in the back seat of the Nissan sustained serious injuries and were transported to Phoenix Children’s hospital.

Five-year-old Angel Diaz was wearing a seatbelt. However, she was not in a child-safety seat when Keaton’s vehicle collided with the Nissan the young girl was riding in, according to Phoenix Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Steve Martos.

The young child was pronounced dead upon arrival to the hospital. Records show the other child was treated for incapacitating injuries and several fractures.

Keaton was eight months pregnant at the time of the car crash. She was rushed to a hospital and underwent a C-section.

Seven people, including two children, occupied both vehicles.

At the time of the accident, Aaronessa Keaton was on probation for drug possession charges. According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Vince Lewis, KPHO reported toxicology and collision tests showed THC, marijuana, and the sedative benzodiazepine was found in Keaton’s system, as well as her newborn child.
