Aaron Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison without parole after being convicted of first-degree murder. According to Sports Illustrated, the reactions from those who knew Hernandez best (like his former Patriots and University of Florida teammates) came pouring in, many realizing that Hernandez isn’t the guy they thought he was. Some seem to think that he’s innocent, which makes this news even harder to handle.
Hernandez’s former “dream teammates” including Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, and Wes Welker have not commented on his conviction, and they likely won’t. It is also unlikely that the Patriots organization will release a statement of any kind.
No one was more upset at the conviction than Aaron’s mom, Terri, and his fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, who held each other and sobbed in court after the verdict was read.
At one point, Hernandez looked at the two women and mouthed, “It’s okay.”
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Jenkins testified in the case, as many believe that she disposed of important evidence — and maybe even the murder weapon, which still has not been located. Jenkins told the court that she disposed of a trash bag in a dumpster, but that she didn’t remember where.
Shay and Aaron are high school sweethearts. Their only child, Avielle Janelle Hernandez, was born in November 2012, just months before her father was arrested on murder charges.
