‘GTA V’ PC Players Are Losing Stored Vehicles After Transferring Old Characters From Last-Gen Consoles

After finally launching following several delays, Grand Theft Auto V is now available on PC. However, not everyone who picked up the new PC edition of GTA V is completely new to the game. It is likely that many gamers have previously played one of the console versions of the game. In fact, Rockstar Games is counting on that face and is thus giving users the option to transfer their existing online character data from Xbox and PlayStation platforms so that they can carry their progress over to the recently released PC version of Grand Theft Auto V.

However, as confirmed from the official Rockstar Support website, those looking to transfer their old GTA Online characters to PC may run into some issues if they haven’t accessed their save files since shortly after Grand Theft Auto V was first launched on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Anyone who hasn’t logged on to the Rockstar servers since 2013 could run into issues when attempting to transfer their vehicles over to GTA V‘s new PC edition.

“We are aware of an issue where vehicle data can be lost when migrating from PS3 or Xbox 360 to PC if you have not played GTA Online since December 2013. To prevent this loss of data, simply play GTA Online on your PS3 or Xbox 360 before transferring and ensure your character is saved.”

Thankfully, Rockstar Games is not only aware of the issues, but they have also released a list of steps which GTA V fans may take to help avoid running into these problems while attempting to transfer their old progress over to PC.

  1. Enter GTA Online on your PS3 or Xbox 360. If you have not played in a long time, you will be prompted to accept a Title Update.
  2. Pause the game
  3. Scroll to the “ONLINE” tab
  4. Select the “Leave GTA Online” option
  5. The game will now save on the latest Title Update, and your vehicles will now transfer properly to PC.

After following the steps, players are advised to make sure that their game saves in order to ensure that their Grand Theft Auto V data will transfer successfully. Afterwards, gamers should be able to access their old progress for use on the PC version of GTA V.

“An orange spinning icon will appear at the bottom right of your screen as you transition back into Story Mode, indicating that your character is saving. Once that icon disappears and you are in Story Mode, you can shut off the console. You can now transfer your character to PC.”

This isn’t the first time that players were allowed to transfer their GTA Online character progress to a new edition of the game. Users were also give the option to move their data over to the Xbox One and PS4 when the game was released on current-gen consoles late last year. Similarly as what was done at that time, Rockstar Games previously detailed exactly how players would be able to move their progress over to the PC edition of Grand Theft Auto V. As reported by the Inquisitr, even those who had already moved their data once between console generations would be allowed to make a second transfer over to PC.
