A shirtless Zac Efron graced the stage of the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California, tonight, in acceptance of Best Shirtless Performance for his role in Neighbors at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Amy Schumer.
He faced stiff competition in the category, as he was challenged by the likes of Channing Tatum for his performance in Foxcatcher, Ansel Elgort for Fault in Our Stars, Chis Pratt for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Kate Upton for The Other Woman.
Efron went on to win again for Best Duo, alongside Neighbors co-star Dave Franco. The audience at the Nokia Theatre was treated to a riff on a scene from Neighbors where Efron and Franco’s characters attend a Robert DeNiro themed party. At the awards ceremony, Franco appeared as DeNiro’s character in Meet the Fockers, while Efron appeared as Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver.
Beyond a shirtless Zac Efron, and the hijinx of the Efron-Franco tandem, others made poignant appearances at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards; notably that of Shalene Woodley who won the Trailblazer Award as well as Best Actress for her role in Fault in Our Stars.
Robert Downey, Jr. was presented with the Generation Award, and made reference to his wilder days in Hollywood in his acceptance speech, but appeared delighted and touched by his fellow actors who took the stage to present him with the award.
“In the 34 years that have passed since the birth of MTV, I’ve grown up, I’ve struggled, I’ve failed. I’ve partied way too much,” he said in a report from People Magazine, “I begged for second chances and literally clawed my way to the top.”
“If a man is judged by the company he keeps,” he continued, “then I must be doing something right, because look at who I’m rolling with.”
Zac Efron may soon be contributing to the superhero trend, as Cinemablend reports there are rumors abound that Efron may have a project in the works with Marvel Studios, but no details are available at this time.
