Jerry Seinfeld On Kanye West And His Venture Into Rap

The name Jerry Seinfeld is not synonymous to rap, yet still Seinfeld appears on the rap album that is currently atop the Billboard 200. In fact, the album is heavily inspired by Jerry Seinfeld.

Recently, the Inquisitr published that Noel Gallagher was a huge fan of Jerry Seinfeld. However, Wale may just clinch the title of number one fan.

Wale’s The Album About Nothing brings together a very unlikely partnership, a 60-year-old Jewish-American stand up comedian and a 30-year-old Nigerian-American rapper.

Jerry Seinfeld explains how the unlikely friendship with Wale was born.

“I think I met him even before I knew about the mixtape [2008’s ‘Mixtape About Nothing’]. My wife was a fan and she plays his music in the house all the time. I liked it, too — I don’t spend much time putting together playlists, but that’s what’s nice about being in a family is people just inflict it on you. I absorb it that way.”

Seinfeld reveals that the emotions and the “hypnotic sounds” of Wale’s voice transcends hip-hop, a genre that he is relatively new to.

“So I had heard his name and then he came to a show and asked if he could say hello, so he came backstage. I thought he was a very charming young man. And then I heard about the mixtape, and he came up with the idea of doing the whole album. It just felt so offbeat and that’s what appeals to me.”

“Wale, to me, he has a little bit of hypnotic sound in his voice,” Seinfeld said.

“There’s a richness to his emotion. When you listen to the music, you can feel what he’s feeling and I like that. Great singing always has that.”

Seinfeld seems to be getting well within the game and just recently, the comedian spoke to the New York Times about his encounter with Kanye West.

“I met Kanye a few weeks ago. He was very nice,” Seinfeld said.

“It was at the ‘SNL 40’ thing. We were in the garage and we were all freezing. He invited Mrs. Seinfeld and I onto a bus that he was in. He seemed like a nice young man.”

Seinfeld had nothing but praise for the 37-year-old rapper. Wale’s Jerry Seinfeld-inspired The Album About Nothing is now available.
