Niall Horan Not A Good Luck Charm After All, Loses ‘Augusta’

Have you been wondering where Niall Horan is in the press while the rest of One Direction seems to have a new headline every day? In the two weeks since Zayn Malik left One Direction, the band finished a leg of their 2015 tour in Dubai.

Their vacation started after the Dubai show on April 4 and tour will resume on June 6 in Cardiff, England. Until then, Niall Horan and One Direction have some time to themselves.

News about Niall Horan has been scant, at best. Especially few and far between are juicy tidbits about his personal life. However, it appears that Niall Horan has decided to use his time to split off from One Direction and fly solo to America.

In short, Niall Horan has ditched One Direction to hang out with dudes in locker rooms and caddie for golf masters. What is this mysterious sudden interest in sports all about? The story with Niall Horan and American golfing started soon after the band left Dubai.

He took a temporary break from the road with a few days in London — then Niall Horan headed to America to meet up with Irish golfing legend, Rory McIlroy.

Express U.K. covered Niall Horan’s adventures and stated, “Pro golfer Rory McIlroy revealed… that the Irish singer [Niall Horan] would be joining him at the annual family friendly tournament on Wednesday.”

Evidently, Niall worked as a caddie — but did more for McIlroy than carry his bags or golf clubs. Instead, Niall Horan also provided “moral support.” Does this imply that McIlroy needed to hear Niall Horan sing a tune so that he could get his aim just right? It turns out that it was something along those lines.

About Niall Horan joining him for the Par 3 Contest event in America before the golf masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia, McIlroy states the following.

“He’s never been to the Masters. I caught up with him in Australia at the end of last year and he was really excited, and I said, ‘If you’re available Wednesday afternoon and you want to carry the bag for nine holes, you’re more than welcome.’ [I’m] looking forward to spending a bit of time with him out there tomorrow.”

Around that time, Niall Horan was posting on his Instagram and Twitter accounts one photo after another about his American golfing trip. Niall’s Instagram video on April 9 is particularly funny because it shows McIlroy changing clothes in a golf club locker room.

In the video, Niall Horan shouts out to the two men in the locker room and says, “Where are we going to go today, mate?” The men reply, “Augusta, Augusta, Augusta” — referring to Augusta, Georgia, where the golf master championship was being held.

Alternatively, Niall Horan’s Twitter account gives fans the type of American golf photos that they want, and Niall does not let anyone down — and included one with Tiger Woods.

Niall Horan also talks about his fear of golfing on April 8 with a tweet that states, “Also, can’t say I’ve ever been so nervous in my life than when Rory handed me that golf club, horrendous shot!”

Niall Horan ends his Twitter golfing experience on Saturday by stating, “What a day @TheMasters, @McIlroyRory played great and @JustinRose99 was on fire on the back nine! Gonna be amazing tomorrow.”

However, this story does not end with Niall Horan and McIlroy at the Par 3 Contest. On April 12, Reuters published photos and reports on Niall Horan’s friend McIlroy after he left Niall’s company and went on to participate in the Masters tournament. McIlroy was attempting to win the Masters and complete “a career Grand Slam.”

McIlroy’s professional golfing goal was to get a “Masters title to become the sixth player to complete the modern grand slam of all four majors.”

Sadly, despite help from good luck charm Niall Horan, McIlroy did not reach his goal in Augusta, Georgia — this time.
