Brad Pitt to Play Judge Vaughn Walker in Prop 8 Play Reading

Brad Pitt will be joining Martin Sheen, George Clooney, Kevin Bacon, and several other Hollywood stars for a reading of the new play, “8,” about prop 8 and gay marriage rights.

The American Foundation for Equal Rights and Broadway Impact announced that the all-star cast will perform a reading of the play on March 3rd. The performance will be streamed live on Youtube at 7:45 p.m. PT.

Pitt will play United States District Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker. Walker presided over a 12-day public trial about prop 8 and eventually ruled that a ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Christine Lahti and Jamie Lee Curtis will play a lesbian couple and Matthew Morrison and Matt Bomer will play a gay couple during the reading. The prop 8 play reading will also feature performances from George Clooney, Martin Sheen, Kevin Bacon, Jane Lynch, John C. Reilly, Chris Colfer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, George Takei, and Yeardley Smith.

Chad Griffin, the AFER board president, said:

“At long last each and every American will be able to see for themselves what happens when prejudice and fear are put on trial in a court of law. For over two years, the anti-marriage proponents of Proposition 8 have fought tooth and nail to hide their discriminatory arguments from the American people. But on Saturday night, thanks to YouTube and our incredible cast, people across the nation, from Los Angeles to Little Rock to Baltimore, will get to watch as our Constitution’s promise of liberty and equality for all is protected.”

“8” opened in September with stars like Morgan Freeman and John Litghow. The show, which was written by Oscar winning writer Dustin Black, will be touring nationally through 2012.
