Teacher Accused Of Threesome With Student Avoids Jail, Will Not Register As Sex Offender

A Louisianan high school teacher who was accused of having a threesome with a 16-year-old student accepted a plea deal that will not only allow her to avoid jail time, it will also keep her off the sex offender registry.

The 32-year-old former teacher, Shelley Dufresne, escaped jail time by accepting a plea deal in which she pleaded guilty to obscenity for sleeping with a 16-year-old student. Fox 23 reports that Dufresne will be forced to spend 90 days in a mental health facility for the obscenity charge but will not face any jail time. Instead, the former teacher will spend three years on probation and have her teaching license revoked. However, despite admitting to sleeping with the 16-year-old student, Dufresne will not be required to register in the sex offender database.

Dufresne took to Instagram following the plea deal with her excitement. The former teacher posted a photo of herself smiling widely with the caption, “My mood today.” After screenshots of the photo made their way into the media, Dufresne made her profile private. She points out that “everyone makes mistakes” and claims that the former teacher is now “family oriented.”

Though Dufresne was happy with the outcome of the plea deal, her legal battles are far from over. This was just one of numerous other charges against the former high school teacher. In fact, Dufresne will be facing a judge again on a separate charges of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile for partaking in a threesome with a student and another teacher.

As the Inquisitr previously reported, Dufresne, along with 24-year-old teacher Rachel Respess, is accused of having a threesome with a student following a football game. A student, who was 16 at the time of the incident, says he went to one of the teacher’s apartments after a football game on September 12. The police report says the student then began having sex with both teachers simultaneously until the early morning hours of the 13th.

Therefore, it seems that Dufresne may have a more difficult time getting off without jail time or sex offender registry in her second set of charges, as she will already have an obscenity charge on her record.

Despite the potential for future charges in the threesome case, many are disturbed that Dufresne got off without any jail time after admitting to having sex with an underage student. Many commenters on the case have stated that they believe if Dufresne was a male, she would have received harsher punishment. What do you think?
