Ian Somerhalder Slams Nina Dobrev ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Departure Rumors

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev have worked together on The Vampire Diaries for the last six seasons. During that time, the pair also dated for three years. Their relationship ended, and Ian is now engaged to actress Nikki Reed. Ian has not hid how happy he is with his new relationship. He shares photos of him with Nikki at events on his social media accounts often.

However, the tabloids and gossip sites have made a big deal about the behind the scenes action on the series since his split from Nina Dobrev. Rumors have popped up on more than one occasion that Nina would leave the series because of their split. There was news of one cast member not signing a new contract for The Vampire Diaries Season 7 since the fall months.

Those rumors turned out to be partially true. According to a recent Inquisitr report, Nina Dobrev announced her departure from the series on Instagram earlier this week. Her departure was planned for months. She shared a message with her followers.

“I’ve just spent the most beautiful weekend on Lake Lanier in Georgia with my own TVD Family, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries. I want to be the first to tell you that it wasn’t just a holiday celebration, it was a goodbye party. I always knew I wanted Elena’s story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime. I was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, a human pretending to be a doppelganger. I got kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, was dead and undead, and there’s still so much more to come before the season finale in May. Elena fell in love not once, but twice, with two epic soulmates, and I myself made some of the best friends I’ll ever know and built an extended family I will love forever.”

Since Dobrev announced her departure from the series, the rumors about the reasons behind her exit have gone into overdrive. Many of the gossip sites are reporting that Nina left The Vampire Diaries because of Ian Somerhalder. Hollywood Life had their own “exclusive” report today blaming her departure completely on the split with Ian.

However, Ian Somerhalder wants to make it clear to his followers on Twitter that Nina’s exit from The Vampire Diaries has nothing at all to do with him. Ian shared an article on his Twitter on Friday morning from E! Online that talks about the rumors and refutes them. He praised the news outlet for getting it right in his tweet.

It is clear that Nina is not leaving the series because of a broken heart. She had always planned to leave at the end of six seasons. Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder will continue with the series for Season 7. The focus will turn to their lives.

This will be a change for the show. Nina has played a huge role in the drama of the series. She has played several characters throughout her six season run on the show. Fans have expressed their sadness over Nina’s exit on social media.

The series is wrapping up production on The Vampire Diaries Season 6 soon. Nina did promise an exciting exit for her character. This means the Gilbert family will have no representation on the series. Steven R. McQueen left the series earlier this season.

Fans may see Nina Dobrev again on the series, but it would not be until the finale. What do you think of the rumors surrounding Nina Dobrev’s Vampire Diaries exit? Was Ian Somerhalder right to sit the record straight on his Twitter?
