Juliette Binoche Dishes On Her Latest Film And Her Former Co-Stars

Oscar winner Juliette Binoche is promoting her latest film, Clouds of Sils Maria. And as part of the promotion, Binoche has had a lot to say.

When speaking of her latest work, Binoche has said that instead of being pitched the idea, she was the one who did the pitching.

Binoche says she approached the director, Olivier Assayas, whom she had worked with on prior movies, and said, “I felt like coming to him and saying, ‘Hey, I think we can work well together, and don’t be frightened of the feminine,'” according to Winnipeg Free Press.

Binoche added, “I think it provoked him in the best way, because we’d known each other for a long time. He wrote ‘Rendez-vous’ like 30 years ago, this film that really made me start when I was a young actress.”

For her latest role, Binoche shared how “exciting” it was to play her part “as a famous actress who agrees to star in a revival of the play that made her famous 20 years ago” as an older character.

While Binoche’s latest film has opened to rave reviews, she also had time to talk of some of her other popular movies.

When speaking to the Hollywood Reporter of her Chocolat co-stars, Johnny Depp and Alfred Molina, Binoche was quick to share their distaste for chocolate

I discovered that Johnny Depp actually didn’t like chocolate. He was spitting it out after each take, and Alfred Molina didn’t like chocolate that much, either. It was a funny experience dealing with them and the faces they would make.”

Binoche also shared the fears she faced when filming the English Patient.

“The first months of shooting, I was trembling all the time because I was frightened of not being as good as I could be. I remember the scene when I decide to give the last shot to the English patient. We knew it was a very important scene…When [the cameras] turned to me, it was chaos. I broke a vial in my hands, and it cut my fingers and I had blood all over. Anthony continued shooting, and I remember being so upset in that scene…He kept it in the film.”

Despite her fear of not being good enough and the distraction of her co-stars, Binoche won an Oscar for The English Patient and was nominated for her role in Chocolat.
