Is ‘The Mindy Project’ In Danger Of Being Cancelled? Chris Messina Weighs In On Its Fate

Is The Mindy Project in danger of getting the axe from FOX? The fate of the show is up in the air, and unfortunately not even star Chris Messina knows what’s going on with the underdog show.

When asked about the fourth season, Messina told E! Online that he’s just as clueless as they are about the status of the show.

“I don’t know. You’ll probably find out faster than I will. I’m the last person to know these things.”

If The Mindy Project doesn’t get renewed, it will be the worst time to leave a cliff hanger given the recent development of the characters. Currently, Mindy is pregnant with Danny’s (Chris Messina) baby, and they’ve embarked on this exciting new journey together even though Danny’s commitment issues have been at the crux of their relationship.

In case you didn’t see the season finale, you should probably stop reading now. After Danny missed Mindy’s parents’ going away party, viewers were relieved when he showed up on their doorstep with a swoon-worthy introduction, “Hi, I’m Danny Castellano and I’m in love with your daughter.” Then, the screen went black. Although it confirms that Danny is pretty much all in, it’s not enough to please fans.

Even though the fate of the show is up in the air, Messina said that he’s happy with the evolution of the characters.

“I never imagined I would be on a TV show with a baby, certainly not this one because, you know, in the pilot I said to [Mindy], ‘You should lose 15 pounds,’ My character was a real d–k. And now she’s having my baby. It’s amazing how things can change. And that’s the fun of television. You get to grow with these characters.”

As for what Mindy Kaling thinks, when she sat down for USA Today, she admitted that she hasn’t started thinking about Season 4.

“I have not yet started to think about it. I just locked the finale on Friday night, so right now, I’m just excited to take this week off, kind of finish my book, and then in a month or so, hopefully we’ll hear news and we can start up again, which would be great.”
