Nina Dobrev Leaving ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ Star Reveals Her Last Day On Set

It is getting closer and closer for Nina Dobrev’s final day of filming for the The Vampire Diaries.

Dobrev will be leaving after the show completes its sixth season. This means that Dobrev’s final moments on the show are quickly approaching, since the series is expected to finish filming for the new season in mid-April.

However, there is still a chance that Dobrev’s character might pop up again somewhere along the line, especially if a movie is ever made. A source told Hollywood Life that “she would come back for a movie.” Furthermore, it was also revealed that she might consider coming back and reprising her role for the show’s finale.

“The show wants to give Nina her proper finish,” the insider said. “She deserves it and many don’t want to ruin that by adding her to next season, even in a guest spot situation. If this is her last season they want to make it mean something. They would only consider her to return during the finale.”

Nina Dobrev announced her departure from the show earlier this week, and some cast members were shocked by the news. Co-star Kat Graham sat down for an interview with Big Morning Buzz and discussed her reaction to the news.

“It’s very bittersweet” Kat explained to Nick Lachey. “We’re all family, you know, and you always want to stay together forever, but everyone has their journey and all you can do is wish them well and support them. This was a decision that I know was made a long, long time ago.”

Ian Somerhalder, Dobrev’s ex-boyfriend, was a little more surprised by her decision to leave.

“Ian met with Nina and pretty much begged her not to leave,” the inside source revealed to Hollywood Life.

One question that remains is just how the show will put an end to Dobrev’s character, Elena Gilbert. One option is for Gilbert to actually die. Gilbert has come close to being killed off a number of times in the past, but this time it would be for real.

Another option for Gilbert would be for her to be cured of vampirism. Such a development would not be shocking, especially since Damon Salvatore has the cure, and since living life as a human is something Gilbert desires to do. Lastly, it is possible that Gilbert simply moves over to The Originals and has a sendoff with that series, which has featured Dobrev in flashbacks.

While it’s not certain what is in store for Nina Dobrev in her final season on the show, fans will be glued to their screen to see the end of Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries.
