Anne Hathaway Empathizes With Lindsay Lohan, Talks “Self-Destructive” Past

Actress Anne Hathaway recently revealed that she and Lindsay Lohan have a lot in common.

Hathaway, who threw an extravagant engagement party with her fiance Adam Shulman earlier this month, says that she empathizes with Lohan because she too has made the same mistakes.

“Lindsay Lohan and I have more in common than people think”, Hathaway, 29, told the British newspaper The Sun. “We’ve all done things we shouldn’t. It is just that I did stuff at college when nobody knew about it, so I’m not a saint. I wasted time doing self-destructive things.”

Hathaway, who will soon be seen as Catwoman in the upcoming Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises, added that she eventually outgrew her wilder days, realizing that the “fun” they provided was only transient.

“I found you can only dance on so many table tops. I got all that out of my system and I am healthy and grounded thanks to my mother,” she added.

Hathaway also credits her mother for teaching her to have a sense of humor in tough situations.

“I have been in so many embarrassing situations over the years. I remember going to the School Of Rock premiere and wore a dress I didn’t [realize] was see through. I wasn’t wearing a bra,” Hathaway recalled.

Instead of letting these humiliating moments bring her down, she explained that if you don’t find the humor in these situations, “you really are taking yourself and life too seriously.”

Besides discussing her past and her similarities to LiLo, Hathaway also chatted about her views on weight and how it has affected her acting career.

“Mom has also encouraged me not to be one of those people who worry about weight,” the actress tells The Sun. “I know when people refer to me as a ‘regular’ girl, that it is a code word for ‘fat’ in Hollywood. It is completely understandable, as a teenager, to fret about your body. It is scary, because you don’t know how it is going to end up.”

“But I am not a teenager anymore and my body has chosen its shape. I would rather be strong than skinny.”

Anne Hathaway’s new movie The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to hit theaters on July 20th. Check out the trailer for the film below:
