Does Madonna Show Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Rihanna How It’s Done In ‘Ghosttown’ Video?

Madonna has finally released her video for the sleeper-hit “Ghosttown” after it failed to debut yesterday when it was promised.

For the most part, people seem to enjoy the video. On the site Idolator, a commenter who calls himself Boogie Woogie Bottom Boy complained yesterday about the video not premiering on time. Today, he is drowning in excitement over the “Ghosttown” video.

“OMG. I LOVE THE VIDEO! MADONNA SHOWS LADY GAGA, BEYONCE AND RIHANNA HOW IT’S DONE. I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW. In tears!”

Ted Lopez wasn’t as thrilled, but still thought Madonna delivered.

“Overall, a good video. It’s a little ridiculous at times. I think the grills she wears on her teeth are a bit of a distraction. At least this time, she is releasing a video that has a theme and it seems that, finally, she at least spent money to deliver a thought provoking production.”

The reaction on Twitter was generally positive as well.

“Ghosttown” is the second single off of Madonna’s controversy-plagued album Rebel Heart. The album first leaked in demo form last December. Madonna tried to combat the leaks by releasing six songs early. She talked to Billboard right after the six new songs topped the charts worldwide.

“Yeah. I mean, you know, I’m not happy that unreleased demos are out there in the world for people to hear, listen, judge, etcetera, etcetera. Once that happened we went into overdrive. A) Trying to figure out where the leaks were coming from, and then B) Trying to combat that with putting out finished music that people could focus on versus demos that were never meant for anyone to hear. So, that led to no sleep.”

Then, to make things worse, the final mastered version of the album leaked in late January and completely took the wind out of the sails for what what was supposed to be Madonna’s big comeback. When Rebel Heart was finally released, sales suffered. While Madonna’s critics claim the album’s drop in sales are due to Madonna being old, irrelevant, etc., Idolator offered a more realistic reason for the album’s downward projection.

“But the not-so-fit-for-a-Queen sales of the record have less to do with the Material Girl’s popularity (remember, this is the top grossing solo tour act and best-selling female artist of all time we’re talking about, whose 13 studio albums have all landed in the Top 10) and probably much to do with a disastrous string of leaks that plagued the album months before it was officially released.”

It appears now that Rebel Heart may be revived somewhat with the release of “Ghosttown,” which has become Madonna’s biggest adult contemporary hit since “The Power of Goodbye” in 1998. The song is gaining traction on pop radio as well. What do you think of Madonna’s “Ghosttown” video? Tell us in the comments section.
