Bill Maher Zayn Malik Joke: Comedian Compares Zayn Malik To Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

Bill Maher told a Zayn Malik joke that didn’t go over too well. According to People Magazine, the comedian compared the former One Direction member to Boston bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The joke was funny to some who could see a bit of a resemblance between the two guys (likely due to their unkempt hair).

“I think after everything we’ve been through, I at least deserved the common respect of being told face to face. Just tell me two things, Zayn. Which one in the band were you? And where were you during the Boston Marathon?” Maher asked, as a split photo of Malik and Tsarnaev was shown on the screen. You can see how all this went down in the video above.

Bill Maher’s Zayn Malik joke went viral, but fans of the singer were extremely hurt by Maher’s comment because they felt that it was a personal attack on Zayn’s faith (he is Muslim) and the way he looks. It didn’t take long before “#RespectForZayn” trending on Twitter. One Direction fans didn’t hold back, most saying some pretty nasty things about Maher.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Zayn Malik left One Direction (a band made up of five guys who all auditioned for X Factor UK as individuals, but were put together by Simon Cowell) last month saying that he just wanted to be a normal person, and he didn’t want the fame anymore.

“My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry, and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.”

Bill Maher’s Zayn Malik joke came after this news, but, as most 1D fans will tell you, Zayn fans will always love and support Zayn no matter what. That means that any joke that attacks his character in any way is never going to be funny to these fans.

According to Us Weekly, there has been a petition set up on Change.org that requests an apology from Maher. Many felt that his “joke” was a very personal attack, and it was unnecessary to compare Malik to Tsarnaev, even if people think they look similar. So far, over 4,800 people have signed.

Did you fine Maher’s joke about Malik funny or offensive?
