When it comes to conditions like anorexia, many women find it hard enough to keep the smallest amount of food down, let alone overcome it completely and become a bodybuilder.
However, a very brave, very determined mother-of-one from Staffordshire in the UK, Kira Hollis, did just that, transforming herself from dangerously underweight to decidedly overweight, although the extra weight is all apparently muscle.
Back in 2012, Hollis was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, along with the anorexia, and had been self-harming and suffering regularly from aggressive outbursts.
The 27-year-old, who weighed only 85 pounds at the time, was advised by her doctors to go to the gym in order to gain some weight.
Having done just that, Hollis literally turned her life around.
“Doctors pushed me to go the gym so I could put weight on but it did so much more than that. It was something to focus on: for the first time in my life I had a real hobby. Working out has completely changed my life. It’s given me focus and purpose. I’m still on medication but I couldn’t be happier. I work hard, I’ve got a lovely little girl and a wonderful boyfriend.”
Six-year-old daughter Olivia has apparently been a great help to her mom, who was left by Olivia’s father when she was pregnant.
Hollis explained, “It was a really difficult time for me and my family. I was a mess and I was lashing out at myself but I’ve come a long way since then. Olivia’s been an absolute star. Having her around changed my mind-set and made me realise life wasn’t just about me. It gave me a bit of perspective and looking after her had to take priority.”
Her story is a viral one, having garnered over two million views on YouTube. Hollis proves that nothing is impossible, even transforming your life from one of depression and anorexia to one of health and bodybuilding.
