A runaway cab allegedly struck a 25-year-old pedestrian and killed him in the Bronx borough of New York City.
A five-year-old girl was also tragically killed in the same encounter, and her mom and another bystander were hospitalized in the incident that occurred recently on a snowy evening.
The fatal accident occurred in the Grand Concourse section of the Bronx on March 20.
Newly released security footage (embedded below) of the incident appear to shows the male victim flying across the street after being struck by a fast-moving vehicle visible in the upper left of the video. The taxi “flung him like a rag doll across three lanes of traffic before his lifeless body skidded to the curb,” the New York Post reported.
“Despite the impact, [the cabbie] reportedly continued driving another 100 feet or so, before jumping a curb and crashing into the group waiting at the bus stop. He finally smashed into the side of a building,” the Daily Mail claimed.
“Accident at 170 and Grand Concourse in front of my bodega. This cabbie appears to be crazy,” a Facebook user wrote, according to the Post.
A GoFundMe page has been established for a memorial fund for the man, identified by multiple media outlets as Kadeem M. Brown. One contributor wrote of Brown that “I always admired him and said that’s how our young men should act and carry themselves. He was destined for greatness but God had a much higher calling for him…”
According to the New York Daily News, the cab driver, Emilio Garcia, 44, may have suffered a seizure while behind the wheel and then allegedly jumped the curb. The NYPD has launched an investigation, and in the meantime, Garcia’s taxi license is under suspension. No criminal charges have been lodged against the motorist, who was treated for minor injuries, as yet. A witness told the Daily News that “the car came up driving on the sidewalk. After it hit the people, it hit the corner of the building and spun around. The whole front was smashed in.”
The other victim of this horrific incident in the Bronx, Tierre Clark, 5, who was waiting for a bus with her mother when the vehicle came upon the scene, died at a local hospital. “She loved to sing and dance — that was Tierre… She would just be walking down the street and break into song. She loved whatever popular music was out,” her heartbroken grandmother said. The family has set up a GoFundMe page for her funeral expenses.
