Want To Be On ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’? Season 8 Casting Call Is Happening Now [Video]
RuPaul has put out an All Points Bulletin for fierce Drag Queens. The increasingly popular RuPaul’s Drag Race is getting an eighth season and is looking for new talent. On Thursday, Logo announced that an open casting call for new contestants has begun.
Season 7 of Drag Race is currently airing, with only five episodes under its proverbial belt.
NewNowNext is keeping on top of things, as it too, announces the casting call for Season 8.
“Think you’ve got the Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent it takes to become America’s next drag superstar? Then, honey, you better beat that face, tease that wig and take us deep into your drag closet. It’s time to make us gag on your eleganza in your Season 8 audition tape!”
The mantra “Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent” is one that every queen who has tried out for Drag Race knows all too well. It is the four basic requirements that any queen must have to get one the show. Though, if you ask a long time fan, a drag queen must possess quite a few talents and virtues in order to claim the crown.
The joining of RuPaul and Logo TV has brought about an new era of television entertainment. (A shout-out to RuPaul’sDrag U, anyone?) According to Entertainment Weekly, RuPaul compares the partnership to that of a marriage between celebrities.
“Logo is like the Jay Z to my Beyonce. I was a star before we met, but together we have raised the bar to new heights, and created a brand that has taken over the world.”
A marriage that will last at least one more season.
For those Drag Queens wanting to participate in the Drag Race casting call, there is a website that lays out the audition process. First, an application must be filled out in its entirety with pictures taken of contestants both in and out of drag. There are also instructions on what to do for the audition video itself which includes showcasing of at least 14 outfits. Queens must prove themselves to be versatile entertainers.
The last step is to send an email containing all the vital information: the application, photos, the video, and a photo of one’s current I.D. or driver’s license. All that is left to do is wait.
