Drake has been in the news lately for his obsession with the March Madness playoffs. For this reason, it is no surprise that Drake is behind the opening of a temporary pop-up store with a basketball-inspired line of clothing.
The store, with fashion designed by Drake, will be in Los Angeles starting April 4. Drake-inspired merchandise will be on sale in order to show off new designs that will be sold when Drake plays at the upcoming Octobers Very Own (O.V.O.) 2015 show weekend.
About the upcoming O.V.O. show weekend, Rolling Stone says, “Before hosting the sixth iteration of O.V.O. Fest, Drake will headline a handful of other festivals, including Coachella, Governors Ball and the Wireless Festival at Finsbury Park in London.”
In mid-March, Drake released the O.V.O. show dates on Twitter that included acts like Kevin Hart and Big Sean. Drake will be performing on the last night, and the short three-show event will be held exclusively in Canada from August 1 to 3.
Because it is held in Canada, it is no surprise that the O.V.O. shop has a Canadian theme. Of course, anyone reading the news over the month of March could not help but to notice that Drake is in love with American college basketball. For these reasons, it is no surprise to learn that the 2015 O.V.O. clothing line was designed by Drake in association with the Toronto Raptors basketball team.
Toward the end of March, Drake released information to the public that he would be enlisting the Raptors to help design the O.V.O. clothing line. The 2015 design line is a combined effort of the Raptors, sports fashion designers Mitchell & Ness, and Drake.
MTV stated at the end of March, “The Toronto Raptors’ merch just got a lot cooler. As promised, Drake took on his home team’s sportswear with help from the nostalgic sports company Mitchell & Ness. Fittingly, he came up with new plays on the Raptors’ classic logo—rather than redesign the team’s new logo that dropped last December when he announced the collab.”
O.V.O. has its own Twitter page, and they were quick to announce that the pop-up store would be opening in Los Angeles in just a few days time. The message stated, “OVO pop-up store // April 4th – 30th [at] 1121 1/2 S. La Brea, Los Angeles. Open Monday – Saturday 11-7, Sunday 12-6 and Easter Sunday.”
Hip Hop News Wire points out that this will be OVO’s debut as a pop-up store in the U.S.A. MTV News says that Drake opened an O.V.O. shop in Canada last year, but this will be the first one in the U.S.A.
Billboard Magazine reports, “In L.A., the rapper is expanding beyond the Coachella merch table ahead of his headlining slot at the festival with a month-long L.A. pop-up shop…. After you’ve stocked up on Drake memorabilia, you’ll be set for one of his many festival appearances this summer.”
