NYPD Detective Faces Suspension After Rant With Uber Driver Caught On Camera [Video]

An NYPD detective is facing suspension after having a pretty nasty encounter with an Uber driver. According to CNN, the officer approached the vehicle after claiming that the driver of the car committed a number of traffic violations. The passenger in the backseat filmed the whole thing, and decided to put the video on YouTube where it has since gone viral. Keep in mind, the video (above) is pretty vulgar. The detective can be heard getting loud with the driver of the car, who seems to remain as respectful as possible given the circumstances.

“The altercation began when the Uber driver gestured to a detective in an unmarked car to use his blinker after he was allegedly attempting to park without using it, according to Sanjay Seth, a passenger in the car who uploaded the video to YouTube.”

According to the New York Post, the officer in the video was stripped of his badge and his gun after the video went public. Detective Patrick Cherry has been placed on “desk duty,” and is reportedly being transferred out of the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

“No good cop should watch that video without a wince because all good cops know that officer just made their jobs a little bit harder. In that kind of encounter, anger like that is unacceptable. In any encounter, discourtesy and obscene language like that is unacceptable,” said Commissioner Bill Bratton.

The NYPD detective may also face additional consequences for his actions. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the Civilian Complaint Review Board is also taking a look into this case.
