Robert Pattinson Engagement News Drives ‘Twilight’ Fans Mad, FKA Twigs Slams Twitter Trolls

There’s no doubt that FKA Twigs will receive even more backlash since it’s been confirmed that she’s engaged to Twilight star Robert Pattinson. The performer has already received her share of racism and troll remarks on Twitter. FKA was bullied by Twilight fans on the social networking site for her looks and ethnicity, as noted by the International Business Times. The “Glass & Patron” singer isn’t letting all the hate get to her. Instead, FKA is standing up for herself on Twitter.

On a recent British radio station, Twigs revealed her thoughts about the cyberbullies and trolls who endlessly attack her on Twitter. She also gave her thoughts about the stories the tabloids make up about her relationship with Pattinson.

“I didn’t want them to see me being bullied and not stand up for myself because ultimately I’m ten times stronger than somebody hiding behind a weird name on Twitter.

“I wanted to show that I can stand up for myself so then hopefully another person will see that and want to stand up for themselves.”

FKA mentioned the time she received a lot of racist comments from Twilight fans who weren’t happy to hear that she was dating Robert Pattinson. They still want him with former co-star and ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart. In fact, some fans believe they’re still dating. FKA previously took to her Twitter account to say she “genuinely shocked and disgusted at the amount of racism” that she experienced on the site. The singer, whose real name is Tahlia Barnett, also noted that “racism is unacceptable in the real world and it’s unacceptable online.”

Though she doesn’t feel comfortable reading about the hate and racism she receives, Twigs said that most of the comments about her are “morbidly fascinating.” She also can’t believe that “people think or say things like that.”

“I just couldn’t believe the world was like that. I guess I’m quite naive for someone who’s come through the internet, I don’t engage with it that much.

“I just couldn’t believe people think like that or say things like that. It was morbidly fascinating.”

FKA admits that she’s naïve about the internet, including the real world. She didn’t “believe the world was like that” still in this day and age. FKA also said that she prefers not to “engage with it [internet] that much.”

Hollywood Life hinted that although FKA Twigs and Robert Pattinson weren’t yet engaged, they were still planning to give each other promise rings.

“They picked the rings out together. Rob wanted to give Tahliah a promise ring over the holidays, but couldn’t find the right one so he held off. They had been looking at rings together since the beginning of the year. It’s like a pre-engagement ring. Very authentic and one of a kind.”

However, it was People that confirmed on Wednesday, April 1, that Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs are now engaged, as previously reported by the Inquisitr. The report also said that the couple are already living together after just dating for six months.

“He wants to marry her. He’s] much more calm and happy than before. They are inseparable when they are together. They live at his house.”

FKA Twigs better stay away from social media for now. Some Twilight fans have already taken to Twitter to air out their frustrations about the couple’s engagement. The singer admitted that she would rather focus on more positive things than cyberbullies and internet trolls.

FKA added, “The positivity that I get from (my relationship) makes the more challenging aspects…worth it.”
