Robert Downey Jr. To Be Honored By The MTV Movie Awards

It was only a few years ago that we realized Robert Downey Jr. was the superhero we needed. In fact, it was his interpretation of Iron Man that reinvented the tone of most Marvel films. That said, it’s only natural that the MTV Movie Awards would be honoring the actor.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, his Avengers: Age of Ultron co-stars will all take to the stage to present the award to Downey Jr. This includes Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeremy Renner.

For anyone who’s a fan of Marvel, that’s not the only treat you’ll be getting at the MTV Movie Awards. The actors will also debut a 90-second clip from the upcoming sequel to the Avengers series.

In the past, MTV’s Generation Award has gone to Mark Wahlberg, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller, and Jamie Foxx, so Robert Downey Jr. is right up this avenue.

Last year, it was Mark Wahlberg who picked up the MTV Generation Award.

During his speech, the Ted 2 star said, “I know what this really means — many people have gotten this award before … Jim Carrey, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston and many others, and do you know what they all have in common? None of them were invited back; they’re all too f—ing old! This is the ‘you’re too f—ing old to come back’ award … this is ‘you’re f—king done.'”

Wahlberg continued, “But you know what? It was a great run, and I’m a lucky guy in so many ways to have worked with so many talented people, to have gone from literally being incarcerated to having a one-hit rap career to having an underwear modeling career to getting a real chance from Penny Marshall.”

Fans seem to be excited that Robert Downey Jr. is receiving this honor from MTV.

The awards are set to air April 12 at 8 p.m. Are you excited to see an all new clip of The Avengers: Age of Ultron?
