Mom Charged With Killing Her Toddler Son In NYC Restroom, Says The Devil Told Her To Do It

A mom has been charged with killing her toddler son in a New York City fast food restroom.

Latisha Fisher, 35, was led away from the 5 Boro Burger joint on West 36th Street at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 30, after she smothered her 20-month-old son with her bare hands.

According to the Daily Mail, Fisher locked herself and her son, Gavriel Ortiz-Fisher, in the restroom. Employees became concerned when they noticed the line to the restroom continuing to grow. Alarmed, they burst in and found Gavriel in his Fisher’s lap, her hand covering his nose and mouth. Gavriel was unconscious and foaming at the mouth.

Despite being swatted away by Fisher, employees rushed to the child and started administering CPR. They continued the resuscitation efforts until the paramedics arrived at the scene. Although the restaurant employees did everything they could to help Gavriel, he was later pronounced dead at the Bellevue Hospital.

“It’s hard, it’s really unbelievable. I know my daughter loves her son,” Gavriel’s grandmother, Merial Fisher, said while fighting back tears, according to the New York Daily News. “I don’t know what happened. It’s just so sad.”

“He was such a happy baby. I’m going to miss my sweetheart, miss my boy, I’m going to miss him so much.”

Fisher was immediately arrested and taken into custody. She was transported to the Midtown South Precinct. According to a police source, Fisher said the devil made her kill Gavriel.

“I would describe her as soulless,” a law enforcement official said when asked what Fisher’s reaction to what she had done was. “She put her hand over his mouth and smothered him.”

“She is a lunatic. She is crazy,” another police source said.

An eyewitness said that he was walking down the street when he saw Fisher being led out of the restaurant in handcuffs. His description of her actions was anything but normal.

“The mother was coming out in handcuffs,” Marcus Comeau said. “She didn’t seem too distressed, kind of had her head down.”

“She didn’t make a lot of noise. Not a big fit,” he added.

According to amNY, Mayor Bill de Blasio said that Fisher had no previous run-ins with the Administration for Children’s Services, although she does have an extensive criminal background. He believes that Fisher’s mental health was the underlying cause of Gavriel’s untimely death.

“This is a horrible, horrible tragedy. And this one – as a human being and as a parent – this one grabs at me as just profoundly troubling.”
