Star Jones Has Tense Appearance on ‘The View,’ Strikes Back on Twitter

Former co-host of The View Star Jones revisited her old stomping grounds yesterday, and it seems that old grudges and frustrations may not have entirely been buried if you happened to catch the decidedly awkward segment in which Jones was ostensibly appearing to promote awareness about women’s heart health.

It wasn’t long before show matriarch Barbara Walters stepped in and mentioned that Jones left the show due to a contract dispute, to which Jones replied “Barbara, are you really gonna go here?” Walters did indeed continue to go there, and Jones confirmed that her departure from The View six years ago was not entirely a positive time in her life:

“It was ugly. It was a bad emotional time… I made the decision that I wanted to go out on my own terms so that when I walked back in here, if I were ever invited, I would feel good about coming in.”

Talk quickly turned to another touchy subject- Jones’ decision to keep her gastric bypass surgery a secret, a choice the show had hoped she’d reconsider at the time. Co-host Joy Behar and Walters clucked about “protecting” Jones by shielding the truth, because they “loved” her. Eventually, Jones was able to go on point to talk about heart disease, but later and again this morning struck out at the show on Twitter, fuming in a series of tweets:

Fun @theviewtv. It is easy to walk through the PAST when your PRESENT is so good & your FUTURE is so promising. See you@todayshow tomorrow.

MY girl @nessabcalloway just called and said: THEY came for you…but you were ready. When YOUR goal is good….THEIR goal is irrelevant.

Let’s just say: The past is often not subject to evaluation, but open to interpretation.>”RT @Rosie: @StarJonesEsq – how was the view today?

Jones also shouted out fellow former View star Rosie O’Donnell, who also did not leave the show on necessarily favorable terms, before adding:

Totally caught off guard by LOVE&LOYALTY shown by @todayshow#Professionals @Donny_Deutsch @DrNancyNBCNEWS.#Support&Friendship: PRICELESS
