Gabrielle Giffords’ Husband Mark Kelly Writing A Children’s Book

With former Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords recovering at home for a bullet shot wound to the head her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, is heading back into the public spotlight this time by writing a children’s book.

The kids book features a mouse who travels into space and will be titled Mousetronaut: A Partially True Story.

Kelly says the children’s story is based off one of his own experiences in which 18 furry friends following him into space. According to Kelly:

“On my first space shuttle flight, we had 18 mice on board as experiments.”

He further comments:

“And 17 of them, as soon as we got into zero gravity, stayed latched on to the side of the cage. But one of them seemed comfortable through the whole mission, like he was enjoying it.”

In releasing a brief description of the new book publisher Simon and Schuster revealed:

“While in space, the astronauts are busy with their mission when only the smallest member of the crew can save the day.”

This isn’t the first time the astronaut husband of Gabby Giffords has worked on a book, he also collaborated on his wife’s memoir as she underwent months of extensive rehabilitation.

It’s yet to be seen how well the book will be received, however kids love astronauts and a book about mice in space sounds cute enough to catch on, especially when a real life astronaut is responsible for writing it.
