Bobby Brown’s Night After Whitney’s Funeral

The untimely news of Whitney Houston’s death is getting most of the media’s attention right now, and many hallmarks of the singer’s former social circles are getting sucked up by the machine right along with her. We’ve already reported that Houston’s ex-husband Bobby Brown left the funeral early, and there were previous reports that he wasn’t even invited. This is all due to the fact that the couple shared what you might call a tumultuous marriage in the 90’s and early 00’s.

So one has to wonder. With Brown leaving Houston’s funeral early, and according to the Reverend Al Sharpton, “respectfully”, what was he up to outside of the biggest story in town?

Well, first he did indeed stop by Whitney Houston’s funeral. After that, he boarded a private jet from New Jersey to Connecticut to perform at the Mohegan Sun casino’s arena with his longtime, on-and-off band New Edition. The show included hits such as “Candy Girl,” “Mr. Telephone Man,” “Tenderoni” and “My Prerogative”, and apparently featured some emotional moments from Brown.

“I wanna give blessings to my ex-wife Whitney Houston. I love you,” Brown said, pointing toward the sky. “I want to give blessings to my kids, my brothers and all of you. Thank you for the love.”

After the show, Brown, bandmates, family and friends hit up Bobby Flay’s restaurant Bar Americain, looking generally relaxed, low-key, and being affectionate with friends and family. After dinner, he settled in for some high-stakes gambling, but left his $500 minimum blackjack game about 20 minutes into it.

“He wasn’t really partying, but he was having a good time with his old crew from Boston,” says an onlooker. “He had a lot of support and bodyguards stuck close to him to keep fans from being too intrusive.” Another onlooker concurred, saying: “In the end, it looked like his heart wasn’t in it. No one gambles for 20 minutes. It was like token gambling just because they were there at the casino.”

After that, around 1 a.m. , Brown and fiancee Alicia Ethridge, holding hands, went with the entourage to seafood joint and raw bar Summer Shack. At this point, the group began to lull, and not long after they all retired to their hotels.

Bobby Brown does get a lot of criticism for his persona and behavior, and who am I to say that he shouldn’t? But for a guy with such a flamboyant personality, and indeed hard-set narcissistic traits, I have to hand it to him. He didn’t seem to be about himself at all. He grieved… well, kinda like we all do.

A little bit of family, a little bit of vice, and the appropriate level of moping.

What do you think of Bobby Brown’s day?
