Alex Rodriguez Rumors: New York Yankees Giving Rodriguez Full-Time Role?

Alex Rodriguez rumors have taken an interesting turn as the New York Yankees may give him a full-time position. Rodriguez appears to be the Yankees’ favorite to become the designated hitter for the team in the 2015 MLB season. It answers one of the biggest questions of spring training and seems to indicate that he is going to play a significant part in whether the Yankees are successful again. A report from CBS Sports has quotes from general manager Brian Cashman that sheds a lot of light on the situation. Cashman hasn’t been very open to complimenting A-Rod until recently.

“He’s got a lot of life in his body so we’ll see if he continues to show athleticism. As I said before camp even started, I had no idea what we were going to get.We prepare for the worst and hope for the best and hopefully he can stay healthy and be really productive for us in that lineup.”

Playing well in the Grapefruit League has certainly improved the public opinion Cashman has of Alex Rodriguez. The two haven’t been on the same page since he was hired for this job and that was never more clear than comments Cashman made in 2013 while Rodriguez was rehabbing from an injury. When Rodriguez took to Twitter to talk about how things were progressing, Cashman had some succinct comments he would make to ESPN.

“You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, [we will]. Alex should just shut the f*** up. That’s it. I’m going to call Alex now.”

These latest Alex Rodriguez rumors indicate that the team is really happy with how he has been doing at spring training. In 13 games, Rodriguez has a.290 batting average (9-for-31) with two home runs, five walks, and some good defense at third base. He certainly looks capable of backing up Chase Headley should the opportunity arise, but it looks like Joe Girardi will primarily be using him at DH. Simply focusing on hitting every day should cut down on the potential for an injury as well.

As previously reported on Inquisitr, Rodriguez started out his time at camp this year with a handwritten apology to his teammates and fans. While not all New York Yankees fans are going to forgive him, it has seemed like many are ready to move on and root for him again. It all comes down to results on the field at this point and if he can post a good batting average and drive in a lot of runs, even more forgiveness is going to follow.

This might bring an end to all the Alex Rodriguez rumors that have taken place during the MLB offseason. If the New York Yankees are ready to play him full-time, then all he has to do now is perform and his name will be off the front page.
