Zayn Malik has officially quit One Direction, according to their Facebook page — but didn’t we see it coming? In the past weeks, Zayn Malik has been tied to 50 Cent and considering his offers about going solo. Of course, 50 Cent was likely referring to the fact that Zayn Malik’s contract was due to end at the end of 2015 and wanted to be the first in line to swoop up Zayn Malik — especially if Zayn left One Direction early.
Right before Zayn Malik decided to officially quit One Direction, he was getting a lot of heat from people like Wendy Williams saying he should quit. As reported by this author previously on the Inquisitr, Liam Payne also allegedly revealed to a source that Zayn Malik did not have what it takes to endure the celebrity lifestyle.
When did this all start with Zayn Malik deciding to quit One Direction? If you follow the news, around March 17, Zayn Malik was consulting with 50 Cent about what to do after he departed One Direction.
Is there more to this story between 50 Cent and Zayn Malik? Did 50 Cent go as far as to encourage Zayn Malik to quit One Direction?
As of March 25, BBC News states that “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right. [sic]”
Reports go on to note that One Direction will go on without Zayn Malik and continue to tour. One Direction will also be recording a fifth album in the future.
In a Yahoo report about Zayn Malik breaking up with One Direction, they allege he said he had, “a need for privacy and relaxation as the driving force behind his decision.” They followed with a quote from Zayn Malik that stated the following.
“I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight.”
But is this true or is Zayn Malik quitting to join up with 50 Cent and start a rap career?
While true fans of One Direction know that their contract with Sony was due to end at the end of 2015 anyway — there was never any confirmation of what would happen next with Zayn Malik and individual members. Simon Cowl gave everyone a scare in early 2015 saying that One Direction should split up to do more solo projects — but also stay together as a band.
Just a short time after Simon Cowl was planting the seed to One Direction to investigate solo careers, 50 Cent shows up and starts talking to Zayn Malik about that solo angle. 50 Cent told The Sun U.K. that Zayn Malik had a good chance at a rap career. 50 Cent said the following about Zayn Malik.
“If Zayn wants a rap career, just because of who he is, he is going to sell records…. But if he wants to be credible he has to be with the right people. I’d happily sign him up to my label, mentor him and have him working with the biggest rappers on the planet.”
At the time, 50 Cent did not state he was trying to get One Direction to breakup and said around March 17 to The Sun U.K., “We’re making music and having fun. This is just like a side gig and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. It’s a good time for Zayn to showcase what he can really do. I don’t think that is being fully exploited with the band because there are five people and it needs to be balanced out.”
Will Zayn Malik’s next move be to sign with 50 Cent? First, we have to see what Zayn Malik’s lawyers can do about ending his contract with Sony and One Direction early. Until then, we do not know what will happen next for Zayn Malik or One Direction.
Sadly, it has not been officially re-confirmed if Zayn Malik will join One Direction for a finale concert for their tour dates in South Africa on March 28, 29 and 31 or the April 4 tour date in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
