Police in Rock Hill, SC received a phone call reporting that a suspicious looking man wearing all black was hiding behind bushes and peeking at little girls at a school bus stop around 8 a.m. on Monday. When police arrived at the location, they found the man, identified as 25-year-old Michael Mobley, hiding behind an apartment building close by, as reported by Live 5 News.
When the police approached Mobley and began to question him, Mobley told the officers he was waiting for a friend who lived in the apartment building. The officers continued to question Mobley and asked if he was in possession of anything illegal. At that moment, Mobley shoved past the police and began to run away.
The officers quickly gained control of the situation and apprehended Mobley. Upon his arrest, it was discovered that Mobley was in possession of a stolen gun from the Rock Hill Police Department. Fox News also reports that Mobley had a pair of latex gloves, black beanie, yellow rope, three condoms, sexual KY Jelly lubricant, and a box cutter.
Residents and parents are obviously extremely concerned, and spoke out to Live 5 News.
Juanita Barber, a great grandmother said, "He was waiting to attack somebody's child. He had himself already prepared to do that. What kind of sick minded person would do that? It makes you want to cry."
"A man like that can jump out - or a woman, too - jump out and molest a child. It's very dangerous," said Ronald Shugart.
Mobley has a criminal record and according to his file, Mobley is prohibited from possessing a firearm in the state of South Carolina.
Mobley faces several charges consisting of carrying a pistol unlawfully, possession of a pistol by a prohibited person, possession of a pistol with a removed serial number, and resisting arrest.
Fearing the worst of what could have happened, Natarsha Alston is so relieved that her husband made that initial call to the police when he spotted Mobley hiding and peeking out from behind the bushes at the young girls.
Alston tells Live 5 News, "If my husband didn't see what was going on, then yes. It would have taken place. I thank God for my husband because he was alert and he saved a little girl's life."
Mobley was arrested at the Rock Hill Jail, and is now being held at the York County Detention Center on a $70,000 bond.
