‘Super Troopers 2’ Crowdfunding Campaign Begins

Super Troopers 2 could finally happen, after the Broken Lizard comedy troupe launched the crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for its production.

Broken Lizard have taken to Indiegogo to try and get their desired sum of $2,000,000, and they’ve made quite an impressive start to their campaign, as they’ve already raised over $270,000,000 in just 3 hours.

The campaign for Super Troopers 2 comes 14 years after the original film was released at cinemas. The comedy sequel will reunite all five stars of the film, as Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske are each a firm part of the promotional effort.

2001’s Super Troopers revolved around the bevy of Vermont state troopers who become embroiled in a murder and drug-smuggling case, while also going toe-to-toe with the meddling local police department. When it hit cinemas, it grossed $23 million from a $1.2 million budget, while it has since developed a cult audience, too.

However, Jay Chandrasekhar, who starred in, co-wrote, and co-directed the original Super Troopers film, has admitted that they’ve struggled to generate the funds necessary for the follow-up from studios, which is why they’ve resorted to crowdfunding.

“We finally have the chance to make Super Troopers 2,” stated Chandrasekhar. “But since we refused to write a sequel where the highway cops have morphed into super hero-vampires, Fox Searchlight proposed the following deal: They’ll release the film, but we have to raise all of the money. So we’ve turned to Indiegogo and our fans to prove that it’s finally time for Super Troopers 2 to get made.”

Broken Lizard are aiming for Super Troopers 2’s crowdfunding campaign to have generated $2 million by April 24. However, if it hasn’t met that target by this date, then the script will once again fail to come to fruition.

But if they are able to amass this $2 million, then pre-production on Super Troopers 2 will begin in May, while the troupe will then head to the Northeast to start shooting in the summer.

Those of you who are interested in contributing to the campaign will receive T-shirts, DVDs, posters, and even tickets to the premiere of the film if you do provide money. And if you’re willing to support Super Troopers 2 with a substantial amount, then you will be able to participate in a Beerfest Tournament with the cast, or join the comedy group on a legal cannabis trip to Colorado. You could even own one of the patrol cars from Super Troopers 2.
