Julie Andrews To Write New Memoir Focusing On Film Career

Julie Andrews has announced that she’ll be releasing a second memoir in 2017 that will focus on her film and television career, and fans are rejoicing.

Andrews wrote in her 2008 book, Home, about her colorful — and not always happy — childhood and her early years in theater, but says the second tome will look into the vibrant career she’s enjoyed in front of the camera.

“My first memoir, ‘Home,’ was about my childhood, early training and formative years in the Theater. I am so pleased that my good friends at the Hachette Book Group have encouraged me to share the next phase of my life, beginning with my arrival in Hollywood and the wonderful movies and television programs I was asked to be a part of,” Andrews said in a statement.

According to CBS News, the 79-year old actress will also share personal stories from her marriage to Blake Edwards, who died in 2010. In a Yahoo! Celebrity interview earlier this year, Andrews spoke a bit about her time with Edwards and said she’s still dealing with the loss of him.

“It was a love story, it was. I’m still dealing with it. There are days when it’s perfectly wonderful and I am myself and then it’s suddenly – sock you in the middle of your gut and you think, ‘Ah God, I wish he were here’. But he is in a way, I think one carries that love always,” Andrews said. “Success in our marriage was to take it one day at a time and so, lo and behold, 41 years later there we still were. ”

Julie Andrews found herself in the headlines earlier this year when Lady Gaga performed a tribute to The Sound of Music at the Academy Awards and garnered quite a bit of attention for her beautiful renditions of the songs Andrews made famous. Julie later praised Gaga, both for her performance and for making the decision to call Andrews before the show to ask permission to do it.

“She had done me the honor of phoning me about 10 days before, asking if I minded the fact that she was doing ‘The Sound of Music’ medley and she hoped she didn’t offend. She was singing all the songs in my original keys… and I said on the phone, ‘That’s very high.’ She said, ‘Well, yes, I wanted to do them as a tribute to you.’ The minute I got home from the Oscars I called her… I confirmed that I thought she was fantastic and had done a wonderful job, and I couldn’t thank her enough. She really did a wonderful thing with the medley. She sang superbly and then so lovingly handed me the evening on a platter, if you know what I’m saying,” Andrews told ABC News.

Julie Andrews’ new memoir is due out in September of 2017.
