NBA Slam Dunk Contest To Be Decided By Twitter


Judges be gone. This year’s NBA slam dunk contest will be decided by the fans. The NBA announced today that they will be replacing the regular judges with an online voting system that will allow fans to cast their votes via text message, NBA.com, or Twitter.

This year’s dunk contest will consist of four players. Houston Rockets’ Chase Budinger, Indiana Pacers’ Paul George, New York Knicks’ Iman Shumpert, and Minnesota Timberwolves’ Derrick Williams will all be competing in the slam dunk contest for the first time this year. Last year’s winner, Blake Griffin, opted out of the contest this year.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, this year’s dunk contest will only consist of one round. Each player will get three dunks and the fans will vote for the winner. The contest will be held on Feb. 25 at the Amway Center, It will broadcast on TNT at 8 p.m. ET.

No word on what dunks this year’s contestants will attempt but according to the AFP Iman Shumpert is expected to get some help from Knicks’ sensation Jeremy Lin.
